 IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION SKILL

 The term communication originates from Latin terminology communicare which means to make common or to share hence it has been defined by different scholars as follows

           Pearson et al (2003 pg 10) defined the term communication as the process by which meaning is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols signs or behaviour.

          And according to Raman and singh (2006) they defined communication as the process by which information and feelings are shared by people through an exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages.

         Devito (1988)  defined communication as the act by one or more persons of sending and receiving messages that are distorted by noise occur within a context have same effect and provide some opportunity for feedback.

        According to America management association (as quoted in Bisen and Priya 2009 pg 1) they defined communication as any behaviour that result in an exchange of meaning.

        By summing up communication refers to the transmission of information, ideas, emotions and altitudes from the source  (sender ) to the receiver for the purpose of achieving understanding.

        Apart from that the term skill found in our question refers to the knowledge acquired after attending a particular course or workshop and get proper understanding about a particular intended objective.

       Hence the general meaning of communication skills  refers to the knowledge of using language in order to express information effectively and efficiently.

      Having seen the meaning and definition of various terminologies below are the analysis of various importance of communication skills to the beginners in undergraduate studies like us;

       It enable the beginners to speak in public with accuracy, fluency and confidence especially when either presenting group discussion, complaining, preaching, teaching, seminars and other public gathering where needs such person to be well skilled and not otherwise since most of the beginners of full of their vernacular language hence have to be completely  changed.

     Another thing which is very important to the beginners is to acquire the language skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively. This will enable the beginner to be away from using vocabularies and technical words when sending message to the audience/learners and this will enable him or her to be very credible and be able to achieve the expected goals and objectives in a particular institution.

     Apart from that communication skills help the beginners to participate effectively in group discussion, simply because a person is now able to share and give out his or her ideas with confidence, having no fear and contribute fully to the topic being set  in peaceful mind  without interruption against one another in decision making.

      Also, it help the beginners to understand the procedures they should follow in most conversations being aware of a topic proposed in a social and academic situation, which will enable him or her to know the techniques and norms on how to greet, asking questions, apologising and how to present issues and problems infront of others.

      In essay writing, communication skills help the beginners to be competent when writing their papers, tests, examinations and in research works, otherwise they will be writing unpleasant work which will lead them into poor performance.

       The skills acquired by the beginners will also helps him or her in expressing his or her  problems to others harmonly, patiently and with great discipline in order to acquire the solutions of his or her problems effectively, when at college or even when away from the college.

       To be a good academician is one of the intended objective of the beginners, therefore communication skills will help the beginners to follow the lecture and read the assigned works well, before the audience confidently.

       But also this enable the beginners to determine the types of messages to be sent depending on the level of the audience for example the message required to be sent to the form four students can’t be perceived by a form one students, therefore communication skills enable the beginners to be more specific when presenting his or her message.

       In an employment seeking, the beginners who will have achieved a well understanding in communication skills will have a greater possibility of being employed anywhere in and out of our country simply because he or she will be accepted everywhere in the world,

       Also, communication skills is very important to beginners in order to unite them to common language required to proper sending of messages in our working stations after completing our studies.

  Therefore communication skills will enable the beginners to find themselves happy and comfortable due to the fact that they will be mentally and psychologically free wherever they will be, since every competent person in communication skills will be able to participate and cooperate  with his or her friends in everything which will be taking place and happening in the college and this will catalyses the creation of getting many friends in the college community.
